In recent years, there has been more new tire production capacity in Southeast Asia, and the demand for carbon black has shown an increasing trend. China's production capacity is huge and the price is relatively low. Under the chassis of China's huge production capacity in the future, there is still much room for export.
In 2021, the total export volume of carbon black was 721500 tons, with a year-on-year increase of 7.4%; The average export price was 1509.06 US dollars / ton, up 48.72% year-on-year. The main reasons for the increase of carbon black exports in 2021 are as follows: first, the global public health events in 2021 have not been controlled, while the prevention and control effect of public health events in China is good, and some overseas rubber products prefer carbon black exported from China; Second, in the first half of the year, the overseas automobile and tire industries actively resumed work to stimulate the demand for carbon black; Third, the crude oil price fluctuated and rebounded, the production cost of foreign carbon black increased, and the cost advantage of China's export of carbon black increased.
In 2021, China's carbon black exports were still mainly concentrated in Southeast Asia. Thailand ranked first, with an export volume of about 245494 tons, accounting for 21% of the total export volume, followed by Vietnam, with an export volume of 154119 tons, accounting for 16% of the total export volume.
In 2021, the general trade mode is still the main trade mode of carbon black export, accounting for 99% of the export trade mode, and other trade modes account for 1%.
2. Analysis of carbon black import data
According to data statistics, the carbon black import volume showed a trend of first falling and then rising from 2017 to 2021, and the import dependence remained around 2%; The carbon black import volume in 2021 was 102300 tons, up 18% year-on-year. The reasons for the increase of carbon black import volume in 2021 are as follows: first, the price of Chinese coal tar fluctuated all the way up to the recent high, and the price of carbon black operated at a high level under the high cost side pressure. Compared with China, the price of carbon black in foreign countries increased little, and some rubber products enterprises chose to import carbon black; Second, according to statistics, the import volume of carbon black trading partners increased in 2021: the United States, Japan, Belgium, Germany and Canada increased by 28.11%, 12.75%, 65.22%, 23.34% and 58.24% respectively year-on-year; Relatively speaking, there is still a certain gap between China's high-end carbon black products and foreign-funded enterprises. As Chinese rubber products enterprises have higher and higher requirements for carbon black quality, the export volume has also increased.
In 2021, the absolute volume of China's carbon black imports was small, with little change in import dependence compared with the same period in previous years. China's carbon black production capacity was huge and basically self-sufficient. The imported products were mainly high-quality carbon black required by high-end price high-performance green tires, inks, plastics and so on.
