Titanium Dioxide, also known as titanium dioxide, is a high-quality white pigment and additive. It has excellent performance characteristics, such as high coverage, excellent dispersibility, excellent light resistance, heat resistance, alkali resistance, and weather resistance. It is widely used in coatings, plastics, inks, papermaking, cosmetics, and other fields. Its main component, titanium dioxide, has two crystal structures: rutile type and rutile type. Due to its high coverage and whiteness, titanium dioxide is used as a white pigment in industry, giving products excellent coverage and color. It has stable chemical properties, good weather resistance and heat resistance, and can withstand various climate and temperature changes. These characteristics make titanium dioxide occupy an irreplaceable position in ink formulations.
"Application features"
01
Improve the whiteness and covering power of ink
Impurity ions, especially metal ions such as trace amounts of iron, chromium, cobalt, copper, etc., mixed into titanium dioxide can distort the crystal structure of titanium dioxide, which may lead to color deviation and reduced whiteness of the ink. Rutile type titanium dioxide is more sensitive to impurities. For example, if the content of Iron Oxide in rutile type titanium dioxide is greater than 0.003%, it can develop color, while in rutile type titanium dioxide, it needs to be greater than 0.009% to develop color. Therefore, choosing pure titanium dioxide is crucial. Secondly, the shape, size, and distribution of titanium dioxide particles have an impact on whiteness. The ideal iron white powder particles should be smooth and without edges, which will reduce light reflection and whiteness. Particle size ranging from 0.2 to 0.4 μ Within the range of m (approximately equal to half of the visible light wavelength), high scattering ability can be achieved, increasing whiteness. Both too small and too large particle sizes can affect the whiteness of the ink. Therefore, it is required that the particle size of titanium dioxide is moderate and evenly distributed.
Titanium dioxide, due to its high refractive index and good light scattering performance, can enable ink to fully reflect light under illumination, presenting a bright and pure white color. In printed materials that require high whiteness, such as newspapers and magazines, titanium dioxide can significantly enhance visual effects and aesthetics. In addition, its strong covering power can effectively cover the background color of the paper, making the printing pattern clearer.
02
Enhance the wear resistance and weather resistance of ink
Titanium dioxide has high hardness, good chemical stability, and thermal stability, which makes the ink with titanium dioxide excellent in wear resistance and weather resistance. In outdoor advertising, signage, packaging printing and other fields, ink often needs to withstand harsh environments such as wind, rain, sun, and rain. The addition of titanium dioxide can significantly improve the weather resistance of ink, effectively reduce color fading and wear caused by factors such as light, humidity, and temperature.
03
Improving the dryness and adhesion of ink
Titanium dioxide has a large surface area and strong surface activity, which enables it to play a certain role in promoting drying and enhancing adhesion in ink. During the printing process, titanium dioxide can interact with components such as binders and additives to promote rapid ink drying and improve printing efficiency. At the same time, titanium dioxide can also tightly bind to the surface of the paper, improve the adhesion of ink on the paper, and prevent ink from falling off or cracking.
04
Adjusting the gloss and rheological properties of ink
The coloring power of titanium dioxide mainly depends on its ability to scatter visible light, which is directly related to the coloring power of ink. The larger the scattering coefficient, the stronger the coloring power of titanium dioxide. In addition, the refractive index of titanium dioxide is also an important factor determining its coloring power, and the higher the refractive index, the stronger the coloring power. Among white pigments, titanium dioxide has a leading refractive index, with rutile type titanium dioxide having a higher refractive index compared to rutile type. Therefore, to ensure the best coloring effect, titanium dioxide with strong scattering ability and high refractive index should be preferred.
By finely adjusting the particle size and dosage of titanium dioxide, we can effectively control the ink glossiness, achieving diverse effects from matte to high gloss. Not only that, the addition of titanium dioxide also has a positive impact on the rheological properties of ink, which can improve the stability and printing adaptability of ink to a certain extent.
Modern industry is increasingly focusing on environmental protection and safety performance, and titanium dioxide, as a non-toxic and odorless substance, conforms to this development trend. It does not contain harmful heavy metal ions and radioactive substances, and is harmless to the human body. Due to the stable chemical properties of titanium dioxide, it is not easy to react with other substances, reducing the risk of ink deterioration or the production of harmful substances during use.
"Application formula"
01
Paper ink
Titanium dioxide is the main white pigment in paper ink, which can significantly improve the whiteness and gloss of printed materials. By adjusting the amount and particle size distribution of titanium dioxide, the rheological properties and printing suitability of the ink can be optimized
Formula example: Mixing 50% titanium dioxide, 25% pigment, 15% Resin, and 10% additive can achieve good printing adaptability and high gloss.
02
Plastic ink
In plastic ink, titanium dioxide can give printed materials high coverage and effectively cover the color of the substrate. At the same time, it can also improve the adhesion between ink and plastic surfaces. This formula case is suitable for plastic film printing and has excellent adhesion and anti friction performance.
Formula example: Mixing 40% titanium dioxide, 30% pigment, 20% resin, and 10% additive can make printed materials have high coverage and strong adhesion to plastic surfaces. In addition, by adding plasticizers, the wetting and adhesion of ink to plastic films can be further enhanced, thereby improving the printing effect and quality.
03
Metal ink
In metal ink, titanium dioxide can enhance the adhesion of ink to metal surfaces, improve the corrosion and weather resistance of printed materials.
Formula example: Mixing 60% titanium dioxide, 20% pigment, 15% resin, and 5% additive can improve the corrosion and weather resistance of printed materials.
Please note that the above formula cases are for reference only, and specific applications need to be adjusted according to actual needs.
The role of titanium dioxide in ink cannot be ignored. In today's highly competitive printing market, choosing high-quality titanium dioxide is one of the key factors to ensure the quality of printed products. In recent years, the price of titanium dioxide has shown a strong upward trend. With the continuous development of technology, the application of titanium dioxide in ink will further expand and improve, bringing more possibilities to the printing industry.
