Chemours suspends titanium dioxide production in the Altamira region

Recently, Chemours announced that due to severe drought in most parts of Mexico, the company has suspended production at its Titanium Dioxide factory in Altamira, Mexico.
The company stated that it is complying with government requirements and temporarily reducing its water intake to protect the water supply of surrounding communities. Previously, both Orbia and Ineos have issued statements announcing the temporary closure of factories in the Altamira region that produce products such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) due to drought. Komo is collaborating with government, business, and community partners to identify and implement short-term and long-term solutions. Komo stated that it is impossible to predict the duration of this event.
According to S&P Global, due to reduced water supply, Orbitia's Vestolit subsidiary has closed its PVC factory in the Altamira region and declared force majeure. Since then, the price of Procter's PVC has been rising, rising to $800 per ton on May 29th and $50 per ton this week. It is reported that the company's PVC factory located in Altamira has a production capacity of 690000 tons per year.
Ineos Benling Company stated that due to water shortage, its 190000 ton/year ABS factory located in the Altamira region has also been forced to close, and announced that the various ABS polymer grade products produced by the factory are beyond its control. On May 29th, the Platts price of ABS in Houston slightly decreased to $1847.47 per ton, a decrease of $30.87 for the week.
