In 2021, China's Polyvinyl Alcohol production capacity did not increase, with a year-on-year decline of 12.6% and a capacity utilization rate of 60.6%. By the end of 2021, there were about 10 polyvinyl alcohol enterprises, mainly concentrated in Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Anhui and Jiangsu.

China is a net exporter of polyvinyl alcohol

The export volume in 2021 is slightly higher than that in 2020, and the import volume in the form of general trade is 167000 tons, accounting for 93%; The main export destinations are India, South Korea, Malaysia and other countries or regions.

Application and proportion of polyvinyl alcohol in China

It is mainly used in the production of adhesives, sizes, vinylon fibers, polymerization auxiliaries, polyvinyl butyral and performance films, and its demand covers construction, automobile, packaging, textile and clothing and other fields.

At present, the mainstream products in the market are ordinary PVA products with medium polymerization degree and high alcoholysis degree, accounting for about 80% of the total market demand; The other special PVA with low alcoholysis and high viscosity accounts for 20%. The products with high degree of polymerization, low degree of polymerization and low degree of alcoholysis independently researched and developed in China are still few and mainly imported.

Strong demand for raw materials for special PVA products

Downstream industries such as PVA optical film, PVB film, polymerization additives, paper adhesive, ceramic adhesive, environmental protection, medicine and cosmetics are developing rapidly, and the demand for special PVA products is very strong. The leading enterprises in the industry, represented by Wanwei Hi-Tech and Sinopec, are also increasing the research and development of special PVA products, which will be a new highlight of market demand in the future.
