Iron Oxide 139

Iron Oxide is one of the earliest pigments used by human beings. It is widely used in coatings, light materials, plastics, rubber and other fields. With the progress of science and technology, people endow iron oxide with more uses and make iron oxide, an ancient product, have greater vitality. For example, synthetic micaceous iron oxide is used as non-toxic antirust pigment, magnetic iron oxide is used as magnetic recording material, transparent iron oxide is used as anti ultraviolet agent, micaceous coated with iron oxide is used as pearlescent pigment, etc.

Iron oxide pigments used in coatings include iron yellow, iron red, iron black, etc. today, I will introduce the basic properties of iron oxide black.

Black iron oxide, referred to as iron black for short, has a molecular formula of Fe3O4 or Fe2O3 · FeO and a chemical name of Fe3O4, belonging to spinel type. It is a saturated blue polished black with high hiding power and coloring power. It has a good stability to light and atmosphere. It is insoluble in alkali, slightly soluble in dilute ACID, and completely soluble in concentrated acid. It has poor heat resistance. It is easy to oxidize at high temperature to form red iron oxide

Iron oxide black is widely used for coloring various paints and cement products, and can also be used as enamel pigment because of its strong hiding power, coloring power, light resistance, weather resistance and alkali resistance. Because of its strong magnetism, it can be used to produce metal primer with good adhesion and rust resistance.
